OIS – Primary School

Becoming active and aware citizens of the world

The school was born with a very clear and heartfelt purpose: to create a modern school in our neighbourhood, in line with the North-European standards, to train prepared students, competent in all disciplinary fields and able to broaden their cultural and educational horizons thanks to their mastery of the English language and a good knowledge of German.

For the accomplishment of what we consider a true mission, we have basically focused on three pillars:

  • High quality classroom teachers

    Competent teachers dedicated to this job, motivated and continuously updated for a multi-disciplinary teaching with the child at the centre of the School’s processes.

  • Native-speaking English teachers

    Always present with laboratory activities thatvallow children to practice the English language in a natural way, having fun and, at the same time, acquiring specific skills in artistic and creative activities.

  • The CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) implementation

    Dual-focused educational approach in which an additional language is used for the learning and teaching of both content and language.

Learning foreign languages

If the traditional model for transmitting a foreign language in primary school is essentially based on the teaching of pronunciation, vocabulary, basic skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and is mainly focused on the language to be learned and on methodological steps to be activated, the CLIL approach, instead, uses the foreign language (i.e. English) to learn a certain disciplinary content. The foreign language is therefore considered as a means of learning and no longer, or not only, as the goal.

The child therefore:

  • uses the language to learn;

  • is more motivated;

  • improves and enriches his knowledge of foreign languages within engaging contexts

  • learns new and contextualised topics, using foreign languages;

  • achieves higher training standards;
